Fernhill Cottage, Charmouth

Highly recommend Positive: Lovely property with good facilities, suitable for elderly disabled family member. Also could take dog. Appreciated supplies, milk coffee, biscuits etc. Lovely bedding and comfy beds. Great walks available, without getting in the car via local footpath.

The semi-detached 'bungalow' was exactly as described on the website. It was great to have some milk in the fridge, and coffee sachets and tea bags provided. Although we had our main meals out, mainly at the Hunters Lodge Inn, about 3 miles away, there were good facilities if you wanted to cook your own meals.

The cottage was perfect for our family of four with a dog. Very clean and comfortable with everything you needed. Location meant we had to drive each day but we knew that beforehand and suited us. We travelled to Durdle door, West Bay and Charmouth beaches but spent time at Lyme Regis too which is beautiful. Would book again without hesitation. Thank you 😊

Lovely home from home, beautiful views

Had a lovely stay at Carols place, hosts were very helpful and informative. Lovely comfortable beds and great onsite parking, with the added bonus of being able to use the nearby hotel outdoor pool for a small fee.

Carol’s place was absolutely wonderful, and all amenities were provided. We had a relaxing time and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings & fresh air! Hope to be back for another break in the future! Thank you for having us! Maryam & Ramaize

We booked very last minute (the morning of the day we wanted to stay!) and Ben was really quick in replying to our request. This was our second visit to thia lovely house as it's the perfect location to explore both Charmouth and Lyme Regis. The house has everything you need and it very well equipped, as well as being in a lovely, quiet location. Will definitely be back for a third visit!

Carol's place is superb. If you're staying in the summer, be aware that the upstairs bedroom gets very hot - even with the windows open. During the winter, I reckon this would be a huge bonus. Parking is easy and all the amenities you need are laid out for you. You'll need to travel for food, as there don't seem to be any delivery options - not Carol's fault. You're within easy car drives of Charmouth and Lyme Regis. I'd cheerfully recommend this AirBnB for couples and small families.

Lovely place, beautiful views, clean and tidy and very close to amenities in Charnmouth, Lyme Regis and Axminster

We stayed for 3 nights in half term. Very easy to find and access the property. In a small development behind the hotel. Our children enjoyed the neighbouring forest and grassy areas. Location is very convenient for Charmouth and Lyme Regis. We walked into Charmouth via the coastal path which is accessed in the woods directly opposite the property. Be warned it is downhill on the way in, and therefore very much uphill on the return. We caught the bus back, only a 5 min journey. A nice property for a short stay.

Very pleasant walk through woodland to Charmouth village and the beach Negative: No hot water for the last 24 hours, with a leaking tank, so the shower was cold. The owner came out promptly, but couldn't get it fixed because it was Sunday. Also, impossible to open some cupboards in the bedroom, with one handle unattached and exposing a sharp screw.

We had a lovely short break with the kids. We chose charmouth as my eldest wanted to hunt for fossils. The area is beautiful, not too busy at all and a short drive from Lyme Regis (although it is possible to walk). The accommodation was as described in pictures. Clean, clutter free and comfortable. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Very comfortable and well- appointed. The walks into Lyme and Charmouth were great and the beaches and coves amazing. We had a great stay and it was lovely to go back to the house in the evenings.

This is a lovely property that suited our needs. Close to Charmouth and the Jurassic Coast but far enough away from the hubub to be quiet and peaceful. Comfortable beds, comfy Sofas, soft towels and user friendly kitchen. Lovely shower room with plenty of hot water and the whole place was spotless. Parking literally just a few steps away. Very happy with our choice.

Really enjoyed our stay at Carol's place. We found it the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area and loved that it was so near to both Charmouth and Lyme Regis. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed, plus plenty of parking close to the house. Would definitely stay again

Lovely place, clean and tidy, had everything you need, and host was communicative. Instruction booklet left explaining how heating/hot water/electric etc worked was very useful, with local recommendations. Tea/coffee/sugar and a long-life milk supplied which was a nice surprise after a long drive. Easy check-in/out with a lockbox. Great location for Charmouth and Lyme Regis, definitely more suited for those that drive as it’s a little way from the town, but that worked well for us as we liked the quiet location. Would definitely stay again!

Had a lovely few days at this accommodation in early April. It was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. The property was very cold on arrival and although the heaters were easy to use it took some time to warm through. As it was out of season the hotel on site was closed which is a shame. It is a 25mins walk downhill to the beach at Charmouth (5 mins less to the centre). Quite steep on the way back, although this was not a problem for us. We were there a little early in the season so only one of the pubs was open. The Royal Oak served good food and would recommend. It was closed on the Tuesday when we arrived but not sure if this is the case year round. The second pub was due to open later in April. Plenty of choice for food and drink in Lyme Regis. A good location for exploring surrounding areas and overall would return.

We loved it here. The little house had everything we needed. It was clean, comfy and beautifully decorated. It’s our favourite place so far. We loved the dvd collection until we discovered Netflix too xx

Very nice very cosy with log burner going , only thing the bathroom was freezing , everything you need was there , would go again .

Nice accommodation and I would stay here again. It did feel quite cold on entering and bedding felt unaired so feel it may be worth putting heating on prior to guests arrival. Nice and clean, and good location. Loved the woods being so close too.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect as some places are smaller than they look but this was great, plenty of room and very well equipped. Perfect for my mum who has mobility issues. I only have one suggestion and that is for more indepth instructions. It took me 24 hours to eork out the main lights and the cooker totally baffled me! Once that was sorted, it was all wonderful and we had a fabulous break! Thank you!

We enjoyed our stay at Carol's, furniture was a bit dated and bathroom needed updating. Overall it was in a good location, close to lyme regis.

The house is in a great location, walkable to Charmouth and Lyme Regis. We booked very last minute and were surprised (and appreciative!) to find milk in the fridge. Some of the crockery was dirty and required washing before using, but I'm sure this was down to the previous guests. The hot water settings also needed changing so the water was warm enough for a shower. This was all written down in the instructions left for us, but a couple of pages in! Everything else was really intuitive, the house was cozy, really clean, and had everything we needed. There wasn't a secure area for dogs but we knew this going in and worked absolutely fine for us as the road is just used by other guests and is very quiet. We had a lovely stay - thank you!

Carol’s place was comfortable and homely. Having towels and washing-up amenities provided was super helpful, plus other small touches that really made a difference, (fresh milk, tea & coffee etc). We loved the DVD collection; something our children haven’t really encountered and fab for family movie nights after a busy day on the beach. Whilst a little out of Lyme Regis itself, Carol’s is just a short and pretty walk into the town. It is also next to the Jurassic Coaster bus route. We will definitely recommend and visit again should we return to the area.

Had a lovely week here. Really quiet and convenient location. Parking was easy. Wonderful walks from the doorstep and plenty to see in the area including easy reach to Charmouth and Lyme Regis. It’s a close drive to the whole of the West Dorset/East Devon coast with loads of great attractions. My 6 and 8 year old loved it. The house was everything we needed. The kitchen had everything provided and even tea, coffee and milk in the fridge for our arrival. Cosy beds and plenty of towels. Lots of DVDs and games also available. Super helpful and responsive host. Would highly recommend!

Great stay, easy place to stay in. Exactly what you see on the tin. We hasn't realised there wouldn't be a door to the second bedroom on the loft floor - in the end not a problem for us but may be for some people. Thanks for having us!!

Great location for exploring West Dorset and within 10 minute drive to Charmouth and Lyme Regis. Lovely cottage with fully equipped kitchen. Upstairs bedroom being a loft conversion can be very warm in the summer. We enjoyed our stay very much.

We wanted a quiet home from home, somewhere easy for my husband who is very disabled, and somewhere we could enjoy staying in, as well as using it for a base to visit other places. Carol's place was perfect for this, and had everything we needed, including tea bags and biscuits etc and some fresh milk for our cup of tea on arrival. The bed was very comfortable and we slept so well! Parking was so easy and it was a convenient location for the whole of the West Dorset/East Devon coast. We were limited to driving because of my husband's disability, and enjoyed the stunning scenery everywhere we went. It didn't bother us at all, but eating in the hotel restaurant fell into the "too difficult" category. You have to check they are open and have space, and then let them know your menu choices before 4pm. The menu is very expensive. So we didn't eat there as we had hoped. But that was fine, we mostly ate in, in the evenings, anyway.

Extremely well equipped, comfortable and clean cottage in a beautiful location surrounded by trees, gardens, and lawns. Wonderful walks from the doorstep and plenty to see in the area. Large car park opposite the cottage with enough space for everyone. Would recommend.

We have stayed in other accommodation at Fernhill Heights before, so knew the location would meet our needs. Carol's cottage had all we required for a comfortable stay. Communication was very efficient and friendly. And we were lucky with the weather too!

A comfortable base to explore the area

We had a comfortable stay. A very roomy property and ideal for Charmouth and our coastal walking. We didn't find the instructions in the property straightaway so we ended up having a lukewarm shower till we realised that you have to turn the hot water on. Probably good if they are in a file on the table as you come in.

Lovely little cottage - perfect for a few days stay to take our boys fossil hunting. Perfect location to get to /Charmouth beach and Lyme Regis. You could easily walk to Charmouth however with 2 boys and and older dog it was easier for us to drive and park at the beach carpark.

We had a great 4 night stay here with 4 adults, one 5 year old and a baby. Self check in was super easy and the place was clean and well furnished. There were board games for adults and kids to play and loads of dvds for a rainy afternoon. It was easy to walk into Charmouth; about 20/25 mins down to the beach, 15/20 mins to food/shops (it's definitely worth a visit to the heritage centre and the fish and chip shop on the high street do great fish, pizzas and icecream). Easy to drive to Seaton Tramway, Axmouth and Lime Regis, and 40 mins drive to Dorchester museum. We didn't end up using the hotel pool as we had planned, but we go see it and it felt nice and warm. The hosts were extremely responsive to messages and massively helped us on the last day when we had a medical issue arise. We would wholly recommend this place.

This was a great contact less option. Very easy check in with clear instructions and everything you needed in the cottage. The space is very clean and the woodburning stove was a nice addition. Did feel like it was missing information about the local areas. Great last minute option and location wise very close to key beaches and Lyme Regis

Cosy accommodation up on the hillside above Charmouth and the coastal path is within a few minutes walk. Fresh milk in the fridge and a large assortment of teas and coffees waiting when we arrived which was much appreciated after a long journey. Everything that you need for a stay on the Jurassic coast.

Lovely clean place to stay a few nights. Beaches and coastal walks easy to access if you have a car. I did not try the buses so can’t comment on how accessible they would be. It was very lucky that I had loaded a full case of water bottles into my car before arriving as we found that the water on the premises is not drinkable, therefore can’t be used for washing food, or brushing teeth. Host did leave two large water bottles on the premises, which ran out quickly, but I would have liked to know the water situation prior to booking.

Had a great time at Paul’s place. Will was very helpful and got back to my messages. He made everything clear and simple. The place was nice- slightly tricky to find as it was dark, but we got there! Also took a while to find the key safe, but again all good. Inside was lovely and clean and once we’d got the fire going, nice and homely. There was only 3 logs, and unfortunately everywhere was closed as it was NYE so we couldn’t get any more. We found out there is a nisa in charmouth- a few minutes away, which sells nets of logs. The kitchen was well equipped and clean. We had everything we needed. The bathroom was very clean too with spotlessly white towels. Beds were extremely comfortable with nice linen. We all had good nights sleep! Had a lovely time away, thank you for hosting us!
